* How can I post photos to ibify?
You need a device (mobile phone or tablet) with Android 2.2 or higher and the ibify-application. You can get the application by downloading it form the Android Market. It's free and doesn't require registration so you will be able to start uploading photos in seconds after the install.

* What kind of photos are best?
Just let the other people decide that. You know that your photo is good when it gets a lot of views and votes. What kind of photos would you like to see? Things that you don't think are special could be very excotic to somebody seeing the photo from the other side of the world. Likewise everyday situations in far away countries might seem really weird and exotic to you. As a general rules: people are always interesting (as opposed to building etc.). When there are many people then there's usually something interesting happening too! Photos capturing a moment or sitation are often the most interesting.

* Who can create events?
You and everybody else can! You can create an event from any public event or happening where you are planning to go to. Creating an event will just take a minute: Click on the "Add Event" link and specify the event-area and a starting and ending time. Now give the event a name and you are done! Every photo uploaded within that area and time will be added to the events gallery automatically! Note that you will need to log in and zoom quite close to see the "Add Event" link on the top right of the map. You need to be zoomed in because event sizes are limited (you can't create events spanning a whole country or continent).

* What kind of events should I create?
The best rule is: Only create events that you know you or somebody is going to. Events that do not get any photo updates are are automatically removed 24h after they end.

* I took a really cool photo but it isn't showing on the map!
Only the top photos are shown on the map. If your zoom close to the spot where you took the photo then you will probably see it. There are at most 50 photos shown at the same time on the screen and if your photo is not within them it is not in the top-50. When you zoom closer you'r photo will probably be in the top-50 at some point. To get more visibility your photo needs to get more views and votes.

* Can I vote up my own photo?
You can. Once on a mobile. Once anonymously on the webpage. Once registered on the webpage. Multiple times if you create multiple accounts. That's fine with us: If somebody goes through the effort to do this in order to get more visibility for a photo then it's probably one heck of a photo and deserves it!

* Somebody took a photo of me and i want the photo taken offline. What can i do?
Ibify requires that the location is known before you can take & share photos. The 'photo' button is disabled since the location is not known. Enable Wifi and/or GPS to allow Ibify to receive the location information. Notice that GPS locations can usually only be received outdoors. Indoors the location information the WLAN or mobile network is used.

Ibify mobile app

* Where can I get it?

Go to the Android Market on an Android device and search for 'ibify' to get the app.

* Can I get Ibify for other platforms than android?

No. Only the android version is available. At the moment there are no other platform versions under development but it would be we are hoping to be able to produce the first none-android versions in 2012.

* Why does the Ibify app ask for 'Phone Calls: read phone state and identity' permissions?

Ibify uses the permissions to read the devices unique serial number. The number is never stored or transmitted - instead a random number sequence (hashcode) is generated from the IMEI number. The only reason for reading the IMEI is to be able to block uploads from a certain device in case of abuse. The decision to bundle access to the devices IMEI number is a very bad one made in an early Android version by Google. There are a lot of complaints about this issue and even bug reports have been filed for android on this. The android developer blog calls it 'irritating if you dont otherwise use or need telephony'. We agree.

* On which android devices does it work?

It should work on devices with Android 2.2 or higher. It has been tested with several phones and some tablets including HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD, Huawei U8800, ZTE Blade, Acer Iconia A500, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy S2, Motorola Defy. Devices with 320x240 screens will not work at the moment but should work after the next update. If you encounter an android device where Ibify doesn't work please contact us.

* Why is the photo-button disabled on my mobile? I can't take any photos!
Ibify requires that the location is known before you can take & share photos. The 'photo' button is disabled since the location is not known. Enable Wifi and/or GPS to allow Ibify to receive the location information. Notice that GPS locations can usually only be received outdoors. Indoors the location information the WLAN or mobile network is used.

www.ibify.com website

* Why would I need to login/register? Isn't Ibify supposed to work without registration?

Yes, Ibify works fine without registration. You can use the mobile app and share photos without registration. You can vote for photos without registration. However if you want to create events you will need to be logged in.

* Can I login using Facebook? Twitter?

No. Login is at the moment only supported using the openID standard. Facebook and Twitter are not openID providers - they have their own, custom systems. Ibify will probably support both Twitter and FB logins but that's a low priority task at the moment and therefore not on the deck at the moment.
